An article published just months before his death covers several main points, but it would require a book to present his life in sufficient detail. That article is as follows:

“…he was a lawyer, banker and real estate agent… was twelve years Marquette county clerk and register of deeds… forty years president of First National Bank of Marquette…. director of Detroit State Saving Bank for fifteen years…. director of many iron companies… president of St. Luke’s Hospital, Marquette, for over fifty years…. member of school board and treasurer of Marquette city schools…Marquette park and cemetery commissioner for more than forty five years…Michigan legislature 1857… state senator 1875… member of Mackinac Island state park commission fourteen years… member of state library commission three years…. Regent at University of Michigan…life member of American Historical Association… member of State Pioneer Historical Society… and member of Michigan Political Science Association.”

In brief, one may quickly add several other accomplishments:

“Peter had been a trapper, hunter, fisherman, explorer, mail carrier, mail contractor, wood-chopper, sailor, machinist, farmer, clerk bookkeeper, merchant, and manufacturer of iron, lumber, leather, and powder.”

This book attempts to present his story.
